Payback under the 2026 net-billing regime
Before SRO 251(I)/2026, $SEPCO net-metering customers received the full retail tariff (Rs. 22–27/unit) for every exported unit. Under net billing, export is credited at NEPRA's generation-cost benchmark (~Rs. 11–13/unit) while import is charged at full retail. For a 5 kW residential system exporting ~30% of generation, this pushes payback from 3–4 years to 4–5.5 years — still one of the best returns of any consumer investment in Pakistan.
